The Asian PGPR Society is a non-profit scientific society established in 2009 to enable scientists, researchers, academicians, government groups, students, farmers and industry personnel etc. from various agricultural disciplines to discuss their interests and research avenues towards latest developments of PGPR from microbe to microbiome technologies with commercialisation aspects.
It has around 1500 registered life members from around the globe and is growing. PGPR’s are plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria defined as rootcolonizing bacteria that exert beneficial traits on plantgrowth and development. In the context of an increasing International concern for food and environmental quality, the use of PGPR for reducing chemical inputs in agriculture is a potentially important issue.
The application and commercialisation of PGPR for sustainable agriculture is a growing and demanding market world-wide. The Asian PGPR Society organizes International conferences every two years, to provide a venue for all players in the PGPR industry to meet, share and learn about the latest game-changing innovations,cutting-edge technologies, and crucial government policies shaping the future of the globe’s sustainable agriculture.

Realizing the importance and with foresightedness, the Karnataka Government has approved the establishment
of the University of Horticultural Sciences (UHS) at Bagalkot during 2008.
The choice of Bagalkot as the headquarters of the University is rightly justified because of two reasons namely: the rich horticultural production base of fruit crops, varieties of vegetables, spices and medicinal plants: Besides, the bordering districts of
Belgavi on West, Dharwad and Koppal on South, Vijayapura on North and Raichur on East are the hub of horticulture due to favorable climate for horticulture crops in the area. The Second reason is its geographical location with significant historical places including:
Badami (Cave Temple and Capital of Chalukya Kingdom) Pattadakallu, Aihole (the places known for temples of stone sculptures) Kudalasangama a center of religious preaching and teaching, and the mighty Alamatti Dam as a backbone for agriculture / horticulture situated within a radius of 50 km from Bagalkot.
